To fulfil its life-changing mission of helping teenagers and adults who may have mental health, gambling or substance misuse issues, The Buttery relies on the generosity of volunteers.

Volunteer drivers who take part in 12-Step program meetings drive Buttery residents to meetings.

Volunteers assist The Buttery’s outreach programs.

Other volunteers take part in work placements to help advance their career development while helping others.

Volunteering can help expand your skills and experience. It increases your employability and is a way to stay active and engaged with the community.

Volunteering is also an excellent way to make a contribution to people in your local community by helping people who need a hand.

We advertise our volunteer roles. Drivers who are members of the fellowship who are willing to drive buses from Binna Burra to meetings are very welcome. Please complete the volunteer application form on this page and we will add you to our contact list.

When a role comes up, you will be emailed with the details like the examples below and you can decide if it is suitable for you. If you haven’t already filled out the volunteer application form, we will send you an application form to complete.

Police checks and working with children checks are required for most roles.

Many students contact us who need work placement. We currently support medical students, exercise physiology students, masters students in social work and psychology and AOD students. While we endeavour to support students where possible, places are very limited and priority is generally given to AOD students. Currently all placements are filled. If you would like to be considered for placement in 2020, please complete the Work Placement details on the volunteer application form on this page. Students who can organise external supervision through their educational institution are more likely to be considered for placement, so please note this in your application.
