From time to time The Buttery’s Sydney Committee organise events in Sydney to inform people of the work of The Buttery. Guests are invited to consider supporting the work of The Buttery financially or practically.

The events feature a talk by an interesting speaker on a topic of general interest. Past speakers have included Dame Marie Bashir, Peter FitzSimons, Dr Norman Swan, Julian Burnside QC, Geraldine Doogue and a number of other high profile leaders in their field. Speakers donate their time.

A recent event featured human rights advocate, barrister and author, Julian Burnside QC.

Mr Burnside spoke movingly about his experiences supporting people who were trying to overcome addiction.

He said that investing in addiction treatment programs help people affected by substance abuse makes sense in light of the terrible human, social and economic cost of alcohol and other drug abuse.

Former Buttery resident, Eddie Lloyd also spoke at the event. Edwina who is now a criminal lawyer with her own practice, a university lecturer and a Lismore City Councillor spoke of her time at The Buttery and her recovery.
