many thanks to the winning bid
The Prodigy donated a smashed electric stage guitar for auction to support the fundraising efforts of The Buttery http://theprodigy.com
“The Buttery, a place to receive. The Prodigy, a gift, or chosen one.” The words of Melissah Clarke, an ex resident of The Buttery. Melissah gained the support of The Prodigy to donate and autograph a smashed guitar after having watched them side stage in Brisbane last year.
Melissah is still clean, she described what happened : “I watched The Prodigy perform from back stage, with some flamboyant moves from Keith and Rob Holliday the guitarist, who finished the show with a smashing ending, literally, Rob smashed his guitar.
Funnily enough it reminded me of my life many years ago when I was a heroin addict. It gave me an idea to ask if the band would autograph the now smashed guitar and donate it so I could give it to The Buttery, the organisation that saved my life. The idea was to auction off the guitar and give the money towards building a bigger and greater Buttery facility to accommodate more people wanting to seek treatment for addiction.”
Melissah said “It was a unanimous agreement by the band. I believe Liam Howlett felt if one addict was to benefit and stay clean, then it will have served its purpose. Keith has signed it with RESPECT. I say respect back.”
Dee Tipping, The Buttery Development Manager, continues .“The Prodigy management have whole heartedly supported our efforts and have given us a letter of authenticity for the guitar and agreed to link their website to our EBAY Auction which will commence on 4th of December. The guitar is an E.S.P. Eclipse 11 Electric guitar in colour ‘sunburst’ and comes in the original case. It has been smashed on stage so is not useable."
The Buttery is raising money to build a new Buttery which will enable it to double its capacity to treat those seeking recovery from addiction. Currently it has up to a 6-7 month waiting list. The new Buttery will effectively decrease the waiting time for those seeking treatment.
The Buttery is a not for profit organization with charitable status. All proceeds from the sale of this guitar will go to the Buttery.
The Prodigy will be touring Australia in February 2010 and it will be Melissah’s 15th anniversary off heroin. “If one addict is saved through the funds raised, then it will be a success no matter what” she said. Melissah thanks the band for their support.
The Buttery would like to thank Future Entertainment for supporting this donation with 2 VIP tickets valued at $410 towards the auction.
